Oil Spill Modelling (OilMAP)
Orbis has a licence to run the OILMAP 3D oil spill model in-house to predict the movement and fate of spilled hydrocarbons in the marine environment. Quality modelling is an essential input for contingency planning and risk assessments.
Services
OILMAP is an oil spill response and contingency planning software package which has 3D modelling capability. It allows the user to simulate both surface and subsurface hydrocarbon releases and includes algorithms for oil spreading, evaporation, emulsification, entrainment, and oil shoreline interaction. The distribution and mass balance of oil with respect to time are predicted for the type of oil spilled.
Quality modelling is an essential input for contingency planning and risk assessments and helps to identify the sensitive areas and resources that could be impacted in the event of a hydrocarbon spill.
OILMAP was developed over 15 years ago and continues to evolve as a tool that integrates the latest in science and maritime technology. It has been proven as a response tool for hydrocarbon spills all over the world.
Orbis runs OILMAP in-house to predict:
OILMAP is also compatible with ESRI GIS software, which allows Orbis to overlay the output data onto constraints maps to show interactions with sensitivities such as Marine Protected Areas.
